“Investment in public education pays huge dividends. It can transform lives, address issues of poverty, health and well-being and to strengthen communities. Schools play a vital role in creating vibrant communities.”
It has been my privilege to serve the communities of Waterloo and Wilmot for the last 7 years. I have worked effectively with staff and trustees to advocate for the conditions that raise the bar for student achievement and well-being, and in May 2010 I was elected President of the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association, representing 1.3 million public school learners and 31 public school boards and school authorities.
There is much to be proud of, and much still to do.

As a trustee, I will work to place greater emphasis on quality and standards. We can work smarter, using technology to inform our decisions, coordinating with municipal partners to plan efficiently and deliver the highest quality education experiences to our students. I want a school system in which every learner not only has their needs met, but does the absolute best they can in our society. After all, students are the future.
Crucial dialogues have started in this province around the challenge of preparing students for the 21st century. We need to offer relevant education that gives students the skills and knowledge they need to succeed.

A love of learning in a positive and safe environment is key to our success: the new early learning program and the potential for early intervention programs are opening new doors and presenting new challenges.
I continue to be inspired by the success of our students, their energy, and public education’s potential to make a better future for all of us.
I look forward to hearing from you, and hope that you will support me on October 25th.
